Marrakech: Assoufid Golf Club
Assoufid Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the finest golf courses in Morocco and, for many golfers, the standout course in Marrakech. Rather than relying on lakes and ornamental landscaping, it embraces the natural desert terrain, creating a course that feels authentic, strategic and visually spectacular. The fairways and greens are consistently praised for their quality, providing firm, fast playing surfaces that suit the desert style.
If you only have time for one round in Marrakech, this is the one that will provide lasting memories of the Moroccan golf experience.

Course Overview
Design
Designed by former European Tour player Niall Cameron, the course rewards thoughtful shot-making rather than simply power. Wide-looking fairways can tempt you into taking on risky lines, while subtly contoured greens demand precise approaches. Every hole is framed by the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, giving the course a spectacular sense of place. Few golf courses in the world have such a dramatic backdrop. Opened in 2014, it’s a course that rewards intelligent play—tight fairways, strategic bunkering, and subtle changes in elevation all come into play. It’s not just about length here (although it stretches over 6,400 metres); it’s about control, course management, and thinking a couple of shots ahead.

Layout
What really sets Assoufid apart is the sheer variety in the layout. No two holes feel alike. One moment you’re firing a long iron into a narrow green framed by cacti and palms, the next you’re playing a sweeping dogleg with panoramic mountain views. Unlike many resort courses, Assoufid retains much of the native landscape, with cacti, olive trees, palms and rugged desert waste areas. Only around 45% of the property is irrigated, making it both environmentally conscious and visually authentic. The fairways and greens are consistently praised for their quality, providing firm, fast playing surfaces that suit the desert style.

Our View
Despite being only about 20 minutes from Marrakech's Medina, the course feels wonderfully secluded, with very little surrounding development. Being just on the edge of the Agafay desert, this is the one course that really feels like you're in Morocco. Assoufid is challenging without being unfair. Better golfers appreciate the strategic bunkering, elevation changes and firm greens, while higher handicappers can still enjoy the generous landing areas if they choose the appropriate tees. The signature par-3 17th, played across a natural dry riverbed ("shaaba") towards the Atlas Mountains, is one of the most photographed holes in Morocco.

Club Facilities
Clubhouse & Restaurant
Perched on one of the highest points of the property, the clubhouse enjoys panoramic views across the golf course to the Atlas Mountains. The outdoor terrace is arguably its greatest asset and is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast before your round or lunch afterwards while watching golfers finish on the 18th hole. The atmosphere is much more boutique country club than large commercial golf resort. It feels intimate, peaceful and refined, which is one of the reasons it appeals so strongly to couples. It serves Moroccan and international dishes throughout the day, with both indoor and terrace seating.

Practice Facilities
The practice facilities are excellent and include:
-
A full-length driving range
-
Large putting green
-
Short-game practice area
-
Chipping and bunker facilities
The quality of the turf and practice areas is consistently praised and reflects the conditioning found on the course itself.
Facilities include spacious changing rooms and a private members' lounge with comfortable seating and a snooker table, creating a genuine club atmosphere rather than simply serving as a place to change shoes.

Shop
The pro shop is modern rather than extensive, stocking premium golf apparel, accessories and equipment from leading brands. It also serves as the reception area, where visitors are generally noted for receiving warm and attentive service.
Opening hours are from 7:15 – 18:00, but may vary depending on season.
